Lawrence Carradini

Your Big Shoe

Nasty gangster,
you keep pressing
all
    the triggers.

If I were a squeeze
box,
    your fingers
would run, ³Aw...,²

over
me

But, now only

your
feet-

Size 12

        Triple E.

Animal Magnetism

Your bones penetrate my flesh.
Your fine fishbone comb and hand
mirrors your reflective ways. Like a

bird with hollow tubeframe light
you are etherial, albeit,
grounded.

Seriously, you draw me in
with your eyes, then
Hop three times-
    Turn

    your head
and,

        smile.

How is it that I have known
you all these years, and
only now begin to see?

How attracted I am to you.

How I would love to hop three times
hand in hand
with
    you,

    turn our heads
together;

        smile.

Keeping On

1% Harley riders
and a puppy on the side

moving through the daylight
dark,

live,
like,

Rain Dancers
dancing-

vibrating-

    with the world-

doing

    what they do.

Third Floor Warehouse

I  have nobody else to go.

Where here is, there is some
     heat.

They are fed up with me.
The others,
I can¹t face.
    Don¹t kill me!

    My fire!
Please-
Don¹t take that away.
Safe?  I know ³alive.² I¹ve smelled

death. It is worse than urine.

Twenty-Three Beans

The beans of
Egypt,
Greece,

Persia,
Turkey, beans
of
Lebanon,
Palestine,
    and
      Isreal;
Stones, soup bean
legume on tangled
vines between
Iraq and a hard
Afghanistan. Iran
for stones, for soup,
for stones to eat,
for soup
    to throw-
for soup
    to scald
and burn the message
in blistered skin
with Syrian heat,
with hot Saudi
sand-
    North
African sand- Moroccan
beans,
    Algerian
  beans ofremember-
³The Maine,²
        remember
³The Bay  of...

        Pigs,"
Guantanimo, beans-
the beans you eat
that give you gas
you want, you need,
and stones is all
they get to spend.
Uzbeki beans,
³Beans
Pakistan
Armenian beans,
and beans from
Crete-
The beans you sow
are the beans you
reap.
    Beans
from Yeman, and the
Emirates, Tangiers and
Quitar;
    the beans spilled
                   in

Kuwait,
Oman-

23 beans and a whole lot
of garlic
can make one sit up and take note.

My next poem will  feature
    eggs
and names
like

South
Africa
,
The

    Congo,

Kenya,
        and
Siera    Leone-

Just wait until    Those
             chickens
come home

      to

roost.
